Given how successful the film proved to be for the streamer, having been viewed by more than 45 million accounts in its first week, it will come as little surprise to hear that Netflix is in early development on a sequel to the 2018 post-apocalyptic horror Bird Box.
The news was revealed by Josh Malerman, author of the 2014 novel on which the movie was based, who has told Inverse that: “I can’t say much, but I can say that it is in development. Sometimes it’s weird, all this secrecy, but I’m game.”
As it happens, Malerman has already written a follow-up novel entitled Malorie, which is set for release on July 21st and picks up directly where the original left off before jumping ten years ahead.

At this point, there’s no word on any talent attached to the Bird Box sequel, although presumably Netflix would want Sandra Bullock back in the role of Malorie Hayes, a mother who lead a desperate bid for safety with her two children in a world that has been devastated by an ominous, unseen presence.
