Although it has traditionally kept its viewing figures tightly under wraps, Netflix has slowly started to become more open about its stats – particularly when the streamer wants to tout the popularity of its latest Original.
Well, following the massive success of May’s Extraction, Netflix has now announced that the Chris Hemsworth-headlined action thriller has become its most-viewed Original Movie of all-time, raking in a total of 99 million views in its first four weeks. And to put that into some sort of context, the full top ten has also been revealed:
- Extraction – 99 million
- Bird Box – 89 million
- Spenser Confidential – 85 million
- 6 Underground – 83 million
- Murder Mystery – 73 million
- The Irishman – 64 million
- Triple Frontier – 63 million
- The Wrong Missy – 59 million
- The Platform – 56 million
- The Perfect Date -48 million
That top ten will soon be revised, as Netflix has also announced that its latest big release, the Charlize Theron action film The Old Guard, is on track to be viewed by approximately 72 million accounts within its first four weeks.
Those are certainly some impressive numbers, and it’s completely understandable why Netflix was so quick to tap producers Joe and Anthony Russo to begin development on Extraction 2 – as well as entrusting the Avengers: Endgame directors with its biggest ever budget for the espionage thriller The Gray Man which will star Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling.
