Early on Monday morning, we learned that Netflix’s The Witcher is set to expand as the streamer has announced a brand new series. Horror website Bloody Disgusting dropped the news that The Witcher: Blood Origin, a “six-part, live-action limited prequel series” will explore the origin of the very first Witcher.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will join Declan de Barra as Executive Producers. Bloody Disgusting also notes that The Witcher novel writer Andrzej Sapkowski will serve as the creative consultant on The Witcher: Blood Origin. Jason Brown and Sean Daniel from Hivemind, and Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko from Platige Films will all serve as executive producers.
Set in the elven world, The Witcher: Blood Origin takes place 1200 years before our current story. So in this series, we will not follow Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, but rather learn about the events that led to the “conjunction of the spheres.”
“A question has been burning in my mind ever since I first read ‘The Witcher‘ books – What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans?” asked Executive Producer and Showrunner Declan de Barra. “The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell the tale of the Elven civilization before its fall, and most importantly reveal the forgotten history of the very first Witcher.”
