Although shared universes have become a staple for superhero movies with the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems like the X-Men spinoff The New Mutants won’t have any crossover moments with 20th Century Fox’s previous X-Men universe.
In a recent interview with SlashFilm, director Josh Boone has confirmed that The New Mutants won’t feature any cameos from established X-men characters but teases that the film will feature some name drops such as Professor Xavier.
“Yeah, it’s there – they talk about Professor X and those things, but it doesn’t have cameos from anyone or anything like that,” Boone confirmed.
While it looks like The New Mutants will indeed be set in the same universe as the X-Men franchise, the lack of cameos will hopefully allow the film to feel standalone and let its new characters have the spotlight.

Although audiences are still unaware of when we will get to view The New Mutants as the release date is consistently changing, Boone has also recently revealed the official runtime for the X-Men spinoff and confirmed there will be at least 20 minutes of deleted scenes.
The New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) and features a cast includes Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Blu Hunt (The Originals) as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage and Alice Braga (Queen of the South) as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
