Following her breakout performance in last year’s acclaimed murder mystery Knives Out, Ana de Armas is set to portray the new Bond girl Paloma alongside Daniel Craig in No Time to Die, after which she’ll take on the role of Marilyn Monroe in Blonde.
Speaking to Allure (via Yahoo! Movies), de Armas has discussed her transformation into Monroe for the upcoming Netflix film, which has been directed by Andrew Dominik (Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) and presents a fictionalised take on the life of cultural icon.
“It was a very important role for me, a big challenge, something that I was preparing for a very long time and to finally sit in the chair and put the wig and makeup on… it was very special,” said de Armas. “I completely transformed. One of the most beautiful things about my job, I think, is to see yourself become someone else.”
“At some points, [Monroe] was completely platinum,” she continued. “But at the beginning, she was more of a golden blonde. [For the film] I had around five wigs with different lengths and colours. We had to do some ageing makeup because it went over so many years of her life.”
