Although Shazam! Fury of the Gods has recently been delayed by Warner Bros. to June 2023, actor Mark Strong, who played Dr Sivana in the first Shazam! movie, has offered an update on the highly-anticipated superhero sequel.
In an interview with Collider, Strong revealed that while he doesn’t know much about the project, he can confirm the script is still in development and the film is currently on hold as a result of the ongoing global health crisis.
“I had such a great time on the first one and it turned out to be such a success. I’m just waiting to hear,” Strong said. “I think the script is in development and they’re trying to get ready to do it. Obviously, it’s been interrupted by this pandemic, so things are on hold until such time as it can be filmed safely. At the moment, it’s all under wraps. I honestly know very little about it. It’s not that I don’t want to tell you anything about it. It’s just that I don’t actually know very much about it.”
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will reunite star Zachary Levi with director David F. Sandberg and screenwriter Henry Gayden. Both Asher Angel (Billy Batson), Jack Dylan Grazer (Freddy Freeman), and the rest of the Shazam Family are expected to return for the sequel alongside Mark Strong, who is set to reprise his role as Dr Sivana. The sequel is now currently scheduled to release on June 2nd, 2023.
