The pandemic may have played havoc with film and TV schedules over the past year, but that hasn’t prevented the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for celebrating the past twelve months of entertainment with last night’s 78th annual – and 1st virtual – Golden Globe Awards.
Taking home the top honours on the film front were Nomadland (Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director for Chloe Zhao) and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actor – Musical or Comedy for Sacha Baron Cohen), while there were also wins for Andra Day (Best Actress – Drama for The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Rosamund Pike (Best Actress – Musical or Comedy for I Care a Lot) and a posthumous award for the late Chadwick Boseman, who was named Best Actor – Drama for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
On the TV side of things, Netflix dominated the proceedings with multiple wins for The Crown (Best TV Series – Drama, Best Actor – Drama for Josh O’Connor, Best Actress – Drama for Emma Corrin, Best Supporting Actress – Gillian Anderson) and The Queen’s Gambit (Best Limited Series, Best Actress – Limited Series for Anya Taylor-Joy).
