It appears that Fede Alvarez is taking the same approach to Legendary’s new Texas Chainsaw Massacre skin as he did with his own take on the Evil Dead franchise, by revealing to Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast that it would be a direct sequel to to the 1974 classic.
Directed by David Blue Garcia (Tejano), and produced by Alvarez (Don’t Breathe), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will take the same retcon route as David Gordon Green’s Halloween reboot by ignoring all that has come since Leatherface waved his iconic chainsaw against that deep-south sunset. Alvarez said “It’s a direct sequel, and it’s the same character. It’s an old man Leatherface”.
Shot last year in Bulgaria, he continued to say that this would be a return to the roots of the original and that “Everything is classic, old school gags. A lot of the approach we had with Evil Dead – never VFX, to do everything on camera. It’s a very old school approach to filmmaking. Vintage lenses. It’s very similar to the original film”.
Does this approach make you excited to see Bubba force open that metal door for the first time since 2017’s abysmal Leatherface, or is the franchise as stale as a piece of old dry meat? Let us know what you think by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
Co-written by Alvarez and Kim Henkel, who wrote the original, Texas Chainsaw Massacre stars Golden Globe award nominee Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), alongside Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Mark Burnham (Wrong Cops), Moe Dunford (The Dig), Olwen Fouéré (Mandy), Alice Krige (Star Trek), Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner), Nell Hudson (Victoria), Jessica Allain (The Laundromat), Sam Douglas (Snatch), William Hope (Dark Shadows), and Jolyon Coy (War & Peace).
