With Sam Raimi currently making his return to the Marvel universe as director on Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Tobey Maguire expected to return to the role of Spidey alongside Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield’s web-slingers in Spider-Man: No Way Home, what better time to revisit their last flirtation with the world of superheroes.
Yes, in this episode of Whatever Happened To?, we’re taking a trip back in time to 2008 and Sony’s original Spider-Man continuity, when the studio announced that Raimi and Maguire would reunite for a fourth outing in their blockbuster Spidey series, set to swing into cinemas in May 2011.
As we know, Spider-Man 4 never materialised, with Sony ultimately pushing ahead with a reboot in 2012 (before going cap in hand to Marvel Studios to reboot the character again four years later) and Maguire handing up his Spidey suit for good (well…).
