Adria Arjona (Good Omens) has joined the latest Father of the Bride remake starring as Andy Garcia’s daughter. The film comes from Warner Bros. and Plan B with director Gaz Alazraki (Club de Cuevros) attached.
The new Father of the Bride will “tell the story of a father coming to grips with his daughter’s upcoming wedding through the prism of multiple relationships within a big, sprawling Cuban-American family.” The script is being written by Matt Lopez.
This will mark the third version of Father of the Bride after the 1950 original and the 1991 remake with Steve Martin. Martin’s iteration was so successful it spawned a 1995 sequel Father of the Bride Part II with talk of a third part in on-and-off development through the years, though nothing ever came to fruition. Last year, however, Martin, Diane Lane, Martin Short and other cast members from the two films, including Kieran Culkin, reprised their roles for a special digital short following the Banks family during the health crisis amidst a special announcement.
The new Father of the Bride will apparently follow the spirit of the original film rather than Martin’s. Garcia will executive produce alongside Dede Garner and Jeremy Kleiner will produce for Plan B.
Arjona will be seen next in Sony’s Marvel film Morbius and was recently cast as a lead in Andor, the Disney+ prequel series to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story that will follow Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor in his early Rebellion days.
