In late March, we reported that Frances McDormand and Denzel Washington would team for a Joel Coen-directed Macbeth adaptation and the film has now found a home with as A24 partners with Apple TV+ for The Tragedy Of Macbeth.
The film marks Joel Coen’s first solo directing effort without brother Ethan, and stars Denzel Washington as the title character and Frances McDormand as Lady Macbeth. McDormand is fresh off her Academy Award win for Best Actress in Nomadland and Best Picture for her producing efforts. She’ll produce the film alongside Coen and Robert Graf.
The cast of The Tragedy of Macbeth also includes Bertie Carvel, Alex Hassell, Corey Hawkins, Kathryn Hunter, Harry Melling, and Brendan Gleeson. The film reunites frequent Coen collaborators, including Bruno Delbonnel as cinematographer, Mary Zophres as costume designer, and a score from Carter Burwell. In addition to directing, Coen produces the film alongside McDormand and Robert Graf.
The Tragedy of Macbeth will be released in theaters worldwide later this year ahead of a global launch on Apple TV+.
