In what’s hailed as the final franchise installment, The Forever Purge looks to change up everything we know about the action-horror films.
Not only is the franchise leaving its usual metropolitan setting, but the film will take place after the annual event has been abolished.
USA Today offered up the above image and revealed new details about the film. They report that “after the annual Purge is abolished, a group of masked outlaw Purgers in Texas refuse to give up the fight in director Everardo Gout‘s fifth and final movie in the dystopian horror franchise.”
Previously, the film was described as taking place “after events of Election Year,” and that the film will “center on Adela and Juan, who finds solace at a Texan ranch, having fled a drug cartel in Mexico. Things go awry when a group of outsiders decides to keep purging beyond the allotted time when people can break any and all laws.”
Franchise creator James DeMonaco penned the script, while Everardo Gout directs the fifth and final movie. Leven Rambin will star alongside Will Patton, Cassidy Freeman, Ana de la Reguera, and Tenoch Huerta.
The Forever Purge will be released in theaters on July 2nd, 2021.
