Hellraiser is a long-running horror franchise that’s gone through some updates throughout the years, and now with a new version of Clive Barker’s classic on the horizon, we’re going to see Hellraiser shake things up once again. But unlike latter instalments, the filmmaker behind this latest version promises a return to form.
David Bruckner, the man behind The Ritual and The Night House, will helm the revival for Hulu and plans to take it back to its roots. In a recent interview, Bruckner tells SFX Magazine that his version is being looked at as a “small reimagining.”
“We can’t say anything about it yet… But it is something that we are actively working towards, and it is a joy and a dream for a filmmaker like myself to dive into that world,” says Bruckner. “All I’ll say is that we are aiming to be as true as we can to the original material. The Hellbound Heart is also a primary source of inspiration, as well as the original film. But then it is something of a small reimagining.”
This version of Hellraiser will reportedly be different from HBO’s planned TV series take on the property, seeing David Gordon Green directing the pilot. Clive Barker is attached to that series, but there’s no word on if he’ll be involved in this film with Bruckner.
