Variety is reporting that Benedict Cumberbatch will take on the role of murdered former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko in Londongrad, a limited series from HBO which is based upon Alan Cowell’s book The Terminal Spy.
The series, which Cumberbatch will also executive produce, will tell the true story of Litvinenko, a former KGB agent who defected and was subsequently killed after being poisoned by the radioactive isotope polnium-210 in England in 2006.
Londongrad is being written by David Scarpa (All the Money in the World, The Man in the High Castle), with Bryan Fogel (Icarus) directing.
This becomes the second Alexander Litvinenko project in the works alongside the ITV drama Litvinenko, which was announced back in September and has David Tennant attached to star.
