Colin Farrell has officially signed on to reprise his role as The Penguin in HBO’s The Batman spin-off series.
Rumoured to be in the works earlier this year, DC continue to restructure their world with the announcement that Farrell has now officially signed on to star and executive produce a spin-off that would focus on The Penguin’s rise to power in the Gotham City criminal underworld.
According to Variety’s report, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Lauren LeFranc will write the script for the series, with Farrell, The Batman director Matt Reeves and the film’s producer Dylan Clark executive producing the Penguin series.
This is the second HBO Max spin-off to come from The Batman, following the announcement that a Gotham City PD series had been commissioned. It further raises the excitement levels for Matt Reeves film because confidence in the Robert Pattinson reboot is clearly very high considering Warners appear to be using it as a foundation for their future small-screen plans.
