Netflix has snapped up the rights to David F. Walker’s action western comic book The Hated for a live-action TV adaptation, which is being developed by Emmy-nominated writer and executive producer Michael Starrbury (When They See Us, Colin in Black & White).
The Hated is described as “a female-driven post-Civil War revisionist history western” and will follow Araminta Free, “a gun-slinging bounty hunter in a world where the Civil War ended differently – instead of a victory for the North, there is a truce, and what had been one country is now two. Araminta specializes in crossing the border into the Confederacy tracking down vicious war criminals, which has made her a woman with a price on her head.”
The project marks the latest film & TV deal for writer Walker, after The CW’s upcoming Naomi series (based upon the DC character he co-created with Brian Michael Bendis) and the planned feature adaptation of Bitter Root which has Regina King attached to direct and Ryan Coogler producing.
