Mary Elizabeth Winstead joins Star Wars: Ahsoka

January 22, 2022 by Ricky Church

Lucasfilm’s upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: Ahsoka has just made another addition to its cast. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of Prey) will reunite with her Death Proof co-star Rosario Dawson in the series.

Star Wars: Ahsoka stars Dawson as the titular former Jedi after making her debut to the Star Wars universe in The Mandalorian. Dawson will be joined by Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Society) as Star Wars Rebels‘ Sabine Wren, along with Ivanna Sakhno (Pacific Rim: Uprising) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.

Hayden Christensen, who is reprising his Prequel Trilogy role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, will also play Anakin in Ahsoka. As detailed in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, it was Anakin who trained Ahsoka before his turn to the Dark Side.

Winstead’s role is being kept under wraps among other details for the series. Ahsoka will take place five years after Return of the Jedi, the same time period as both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, but the story is unknown aside from the ease in Ahsoka’s guest appearance in Mandalorian that she is hunting Grand Admiral Thrawn, an Imperial official who disappeared somewhere in space with Star Wars Rebels‘ Ezra Bridger at the conclusion of that series. Given Sabine’s casting and Rebels‘ own tease at its end as she and Ahsoka prepare for a search for Ezra, it seems Ahsoka will pick up on their search for Ezra and Thrawn.

There have been rumours Aladdin‘s Mena Massoud has been approached to play the live-action version of Ezra Bridger and Lars Mikkelsen (The Witcher) is rumoured to reprise his role as Thrawn in live-action after voicing the character for two seasons of Rebels. However, neither Lucasfilm nor Disney have currently confirmed these castings.
