Sony has made another addition to its upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film Kraven The Hunter. According to Deadline, Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus) has been cast as Spider-Man villain Chameleon in the film. He joins Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass), who plays Kraven, and Russell Crowe in an unknown role.
Chameleon was introduced in the very first issue of Amazing Spider-Man and created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. He is known to be the ultimate Master of Disguise, being able to impersonate anybody in the world. In the Spider-Man comics since his introduction, his real name was revealed to be Dmitri Smerdyakov and he is a half-brother to Kraven.
Kraven is part of Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, using what characters are available to them through their ownership of the Spider-Man film rights. Kraven is the latest project from Sony in their Spider-Man-less Marvel universe after the two Venom films and April’s Morbius starring Jared Leto. In addition to Kraven, Sony recently cast Dakota Johnson as the title character in Madame Web.
Kraven The Hunter will be directed by J.C. Chandor (Triple Frontier) from a script by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing.
Kraven The Hunter is set for release on January 13th 2023.
