While dishing to The Hollywood Reporter about the future of 20th Century and all its upcoming projects, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell made sure to give special attention to James Cameron’s Avatar 2. From its release date to how it will feel, the 20th Century Studios president offered up some solid information about the long-gestating sequel to the 2009 box office champion.
When pressed on if Avatar 2 would avoid more delays and arrive this year, Ashbell quickly responded without hestitation: “Yes. It will. It’s going to blow people away. You’re not ready for what Jim [Cameron] is doing.”
“This is not just a sequel; it’s a saga,” he continued. “And it’s a family saga. It will be compelling on its own, but it will also be extremely compelling to return to those characters and to see how they’ve evolved. It’s less about Avatar being a really big movie and more about how Avatar was a really important cultural moment for audiences. I don’t think it will be hard to convince people to come back.”
