Since almost its inception back with Iron Man in 2008, fans have been speculating as to when the Marvel Cinematic Universe will venture outside of its PG-13 formula, and now we have our answer.
No, it’s not Ryan Reynolds’ planned return in Deadpool 3 (although that will presumably become the first to receive an R), but rather Ms. Marvel, with the upcoming Disney+ series set to become Marvel Studios’ first PG-rated title when it premieres on the streamer this summer.
The news is perhaps not too surprising, as it seemed clear from the trailer that Disney and Marvel were skewing younger with the Iman Vellani-led series, and that has now been reflected in a TV-PG rating, making it the first Marvel Studios project not to receive a PG-13 or TV-14 television equivalent.

“Ms. Marvel,” launching on Disney+ in Summer 2022, is a new series that introduces Kamala Khan—a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. A great student, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. But Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with super powers, right?
Ms. Marvel sees Iman Vellani starring alongside Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer, Nimra Bucha, Laurel Marsden and Anjali Bhimani.
Ms. Marvel will premiere on June 8th on Disney+.
