Brace yourselves for another bout of duplicitous dark comedy, because Lionsgate and Amazon Studios are joining forces to reunite Blake Lively, Anna Kendrick and Paul Feig for a follow-up to box-office hit A Simple Favor.
Deadline report that Paul Feig (Last Christmas) will once again direct Blake Lively (The Shallows) and Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect), working from a script written by Jessica Sharzer (A Simple Favor). Feigco Entertainment is set to produce. Sharzer will executive produce.
The story of Stephanie (Kendrick), a single mother with a parenting vlog who befriends Emily (Lively), a secretive upper-class woman who has a child at the same elementary school, who goes missing, forcing Stephanie to take it upon herself to investigate, A Simple Favor grossed almost $100M worldwide back in 2018, and was also a hit with the critics, sitting at 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans had always hoped for a sequel, given the films ambiguous ending, and now they’ve been granted their wish.
Up next for Feig is Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil, while Kendrick is juggling projects such as Alice, Darling and The Dating Game. Lively is set to make her directorial debut with Seconds, written by Edgar Wright and Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley.
