How’s about this for some Most Wanted level casting news for Taylor Sheridan’s latest Yellowstone prequel series 1932; Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren have signed on to play unspecified roles in Paramount+’s next instalment of the Dutton origin story.
No sooner had Ford decided to head to the small screen for the first time since a 1993 episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles with AppleTV+’s comedy series Shrinking, than Deadline reports he is set to join 1932 alongside television royalty in the shape of Prime Suspect‘s Dame Helen Mirren.
Taylor Sheridan (Sicario, Wind River) has performed quite the world building feat with Yellowstone, which stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, and has already spawned one hugely successful spin-off in 1883, which starred Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton, and went on to become the most-watched title ever on Paramount+ worldwide.
No details were offered by the streaming service about who Ford and Mirren would be playing in 1932, but they did say that “the next story will introduce a new generation of the Dutton family and explore the early twentieth century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.”
