Amanda Waller is coming back, and heading to HBO Max to compete with Peacemaker.
Variety reports that Viola Davis is eying a return as Waller, the villainous character from the Suicide Squad films, for a new HBO Max series. Waller was featured briefly in the opening and closing episodes of Peacemaker, a spinoff series of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad starring John Cena, which was met with acclaim from fans and critics this year.
The final episode of Peacemaker saw Waller’s daughter, Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), blowing the whistle on Task Force X and her mother’s actions; this will lead this spinoff series down an exciting path. While reports don’t state exactly what the plot of the series will be, the show will follow the events of Waller’s appearance at the end of Peacemaker. How will the cunning and sadistic Amanda Waller get out of this situation? Only time will tell.
Davis will serve as executive producer of the series in addition to starring. Christal Henry would write and executive produce. Henry’s served as a producer and wrote for HBO’s Watchmen, penning the episode ‘If You Don’t Like My Story, Write Your Own’. James Gunn will also produce alongside Peter Safran and Warner Bros Television.
2016’s Suicide Squad, Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, and the Peacemaker series are all currently streaming on HBO Max.
