Chris Evans offers up his candid feelings on potential Captain America MCU return

June 13, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe is shifting its attention towards a new generation of heroes post Avengers: Endgame, there are many fans still clamoring for more of the OG Avengers, such as Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark and Chris Evans’ Captain America.

However, it seems Evans might not share the same views as the fanbase as the actor has told Comic Book that it would “be scary” to return to something he calls “precious” to him, with the Lightyear star revealing that he basically has no current plans to return and “it would be a tall order” to get him to pick up the shield again.

“That seems to be something that people would like to see,” said Evans.  “I don’t want to disappoint anybody, but I just don’t know if — you know, it’s tough. It was such a good run and I’m so happy with it, you know, it’s so precious to me. It would have to be perfect. It just would be scary to, you know, addle something that is, again, so – oh, so dear to me, and that role means so much to me. So, to revisit it – it would be a tall order.”

Marvel is entering their multiverse era, and we live in a world where we learned to “never say never,” so Evans’ return isn’t totally out of the question (reports even surfaced from Deadline last year that the star was in talks with Marvel about a return). However, Evans will likely want to spend time spreading his wings outside of the MCU and continue to be the fan-favorite actor he’s slowly become.

Currently, a fourth Captain America is in development with The Falcon And The Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman. This new film will follow the events of the Disney+ series, where Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson takes on the role of Captain America. Mackie shared one of Evans’ final scenes in the MCU with their conversation near the end of Avengers: Endgame and later came to accept the title of ‘Cap’ with the help of Bucky Barnes in their Disney+ series.

Chris Evans is currently promoting Lightyear, where he voices Buzz Lightyear in a spin-off of the Toy Story franchise. Evans will also star in the Netflix action thriller The Gray Man from Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo.

The sci-fi action-adventure presents the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear—the hero who inspired the toy—introducing the legendary Space Ranger who would win generations of fans.

Lightyear features a voice cast that includes Buzz Lightyear, Toy Story, film review, movie review, lightyear review, lightyear spoilers, lightyear movie, Chris Evans, Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, Taika Waititi. Peter Sohn, Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez, Isiah Whitlock Jr.

Lightyear is set for release on June 17th.
