Taron Egerton has once again spoken about his desire to suit up for the MCU, preferably in the vacant role of everyone’s favourite anger-management mutant Wolverine, but this time the Rocketman star has revealed that he has spoken to Marvel Studios head-honcho Kevin Feige about doing so.
Back in 2019 Egerton effused about how he loved Marvel and the MCU, but was unsure about whether Wolverine was a realistic possibility. Now in an interview with The New York Times he has told them he has been in talks with Kevin Feige and other Marvel Studio executives about taking on the character made famous by Hugh Jackman, reiterating his desire for the role, saying “I don’t think it would be wrong to say that. I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it. But hopefully if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”
With the X-Men making their MCU debut with Professor Xavier’s alt-verse appearance in Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness, the timing fits that we’d start to hear casting rumours around who would be on the roster for the School for Gifted Youngsters’ next intake, so this is either the first of many, or Egerton attempting to get his adamantium claws into the role before anyone else.
What do you think? Could Egerton fill the void left by Jackman? If not, who would be your pick to grow a huge pair of sideburns in the MCU? Let us know your thoughts by heading to our social channels @flickeringmyth…
