With Joel Coen having made his solo directorial debut last year with The Tragedy of Macbeth, Ethan Coen is now prepping his first project without his sibling as Deadline reports that the filmmaker has tapped Margaret Qualley (Maid) and Geraldine Viswanathan (The Broken Hearts Gallery) to lead an as-yet-untitled film.
Plot details for the project are being kept under wraps, but Coen will direct from a screenplay he’s co-written with his wife Tricia Cooke, while the couple will also produce with Robert Graf and Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films.
As per the trade, Coen has been meeting with potential talent for the past few months, with Qualley and Viswanathan securing the coveted lead roles after impressing during recent screentests and chemistry readings. Production on the film is slated to get underway in the fall.
Ethan Coen was last behind the camera with brother Joel for 2018’s The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, after which he decided to take a break from cinema to focus on the theater.
