When Shane Black’s The Predator completely missed the target back in 2018, it seemed as though the franchise was destined to programme the self-destruct button, but over the weekend Dan Trachtenberg’s prequel Prey has become the number one streaming premiere to date across all of the streamer’s films and television series.
We called it “a riveting, rip-roaring survival showdown” in our ★★★★★ review, and it appears that audiences agree, because according to Deadline 20th Century Studios have said that Prey not only topped the record for Hulu, but also registered as the most-watched debut on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under in all other territories, based on hours watched in the first three days of its release. As is the way with these things, no official numbers have been released.

Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, “Prey” is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.
Prey is streaming now on Hulu and Disney+.
