Starz has announced that it is developing a prequel to its hit series Outlander entitled Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which will explore the love story of Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) parents Brian and Ellen Fraser.
“Outlander is a riveting show that from season to season has captured the hearts of its fans around the world,” said Kathryn Busby, President, Original Programming at STARZ. “We are excited to peel back the layers of this vibrant world to bring our audience the origin of where it all began. Matthew, Maril and Ronald will continue to bring their excellent vision and creativity to this new iteration, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.”
Outlander showrunner Matthew B. Roberts is set to serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner on Blood of My Blood, while Maril Davis and Ronald D. Moore also executive produce.
Based on Diana Gabaldon’s book series, Outlander is a historical fantasy drama which stars Catriona Balfe as Claire Randall, a WWII military nurse who finds herself transported back in time to the 16th century where she falls in love with the dashing highlander Jamie Fraser (Heughan). The show is currently in production on its seventh season.
