Warner Bros.’ Joker: Folie À Deux has added a new cast member as Deadline reports that Catherine Keener (The Adam Project) has joined the upcoming DC movie sequel.
Joker: Folie À Deux will see filmmaker Todd Phillips returning to the director’s chair after steering the first film to incredible success with over $1 billion in box office receipts, making it the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, along with an awards run that culminated with the Best Actor Oscar for Joaquin Phoenix.
Kenner will star alongside Phoenix, who is returning as Arthur Fleck/Joker, and Lady Gaga, who is set to play Harley Quinn in the film. Zazie Beetz will return from the first film, reprising her role as Arthur’s former neighbour and romantic obsession Sophie, while Brendan Gleeson (The Banshes of Inisherin) also recently signed on to appear.
Not much is known about the anticipated sequel, but previous reports have suggested the film will take place in Gotham City’s notorious Arkham Asylum where audiences last left Joker and will include elements of a musical. That’s not too surprising given Gaga’s background as one of the world’s most successful pop singers.
Meanwhile, Keener and Gleeson’s roles have not been revealed, and its unclear whether they will be portraying characters original to the film or already existing characters from the Batman mythology.
Joker: Folie À Deux will begin production in December ahead of an October 4th, 2024 release date.
