Having fought to bring Black Adam to the big-screen for 15-years, only to deliver a seen-it-all-before movie with middling box-office returns, Dwayne Johnson has conceded defeat for a character he promised would change the hierarchy of power in the DCEU.
Despite spending the last few weeks defending Black Adam‘s $391 million haul at the worldwide box-office, Johnson took to social media to announce that following a meeting with new DC Studios boss James Gunn, “Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling”. The news shouldn’t really come as much of a surprise considering the DC fallout that has dominated the entertainment pages over the last few days, with James Gunn addressing toxic fandom in the wake of the cancellation of Henry Cavill’s iteration of Superman and Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3.
However, Johnson did offer up a glimmer of hope to those keen to see a sequel to Black Adam by adding that “DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.”
