For years, the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has been in development. Now with the announcement of casting, it finally feels real.
Deadline broke the story that Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson would join the cast of the video game adaptation. While there’s no official confirmation, rumors say that Lillard will play William Afton, the main villain in the film. Hutcherson’s role is reportedly set to be the security guard Mike Schmidt, the unlucky guard watching over Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
Joining the pair will be Mary Stuart Masterson and Piper Rubio. Masterson is rumored to play another of the film’s baddies, while Rubio will play the younger sister to Hutcherson’s Mike.
Five Nights at Freddy’s is a series of games set in a fictional kids’ restaurant chain. We follow the security guard (sometimes a child or retail worker) who has to defend themselves throughout the night, fighting against hostile animatronic animals.
Emma Tammi will helm the film, while it was written by Scott Cawthon, Emma Tammi, and Seth Cuddeback. Blumhouse will produce the film in association with Striker Entertainment.
Production on Five Nights at Freddy’s is set for a February start in New Orleans.
