While we’re still waiting on word whether Daredevil cast members like Deborah Ann Woll will return for the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, we at least have our first official casting news as Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark) will star in the show.
Gandolfini will star alongside Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, both of whom have already reprised their roles as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in recent MCU projects and will face off again in Daredevil: Born Again. Gandolfini’s character is being kept under wraps, but reports have suggested he will play an ambitious man from Staten Island named Liam.
Gandolfini is the son of the late James Gandolfini who is most known for portraying mobster Tony Soprano in The Sopranos. Last year Michael Gandolfini starred in The Many Saints of Newark, a Sopranos feature film prequel where he played a teenaged version of his father’s groundbreaking character. His latest project was The Offer, a Paramount+ series following the development of The Godfather film, which funny enough was referenced several times throughout The Sopranos as Tony’s favourite film.
Daredevil: Born Again will be written and executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord (Covert Affairs). Charlie Cox recently said Born Again is “going to be totally different… It is going to be new stories, and new ideas.” Whether or not it will be a full on reboot or a loose continuation that will see Woll and Elden Henson return as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson remains to be seen.
Daredevil: Born Again is set to debut its 18-episode series sometime in 2024.
