Although its theatrical plans for Without Remorse were upended, with the Tom Clancy adaptation heading to Amazon for distribution, Paramount Pictures is now looking to continue its John Clark series by tapping Chad Stahelski (John Wick) to direct the returning Michael B. Jordan in Rainbow Six.
Based on the 1998 novel by Clancy, which spawned a hugely successful series of video games, Rainbow Six picks up years after Without Remorse, with for CIA officer and former Navy SEAL John Kelly – now going by the name John Clark – leading a multinational couter-terrorism team codenamed Rainbow.
Former stuntman Stahelski is currently gearing up for the release of John Wick: Chapter 4 this March, while he has a host of other potential projects on his slate including Netflix’s Black Samurai, a Project Nemesis TV series, a Ghosts of Tsushima film, action-thriller Classified and the long-planned Highlander remake.
At this point, it’s unclear where Rainbow Six sits in order of priority (or whether Stahelski remains involved with all of those – particularly Highlander), nor whether Paramount is planning to release the film theatrically or reunite with Amazon following the streamer’s distribution of Without Remorse. We will of course keep you posted.
