It has been a while since we’ve heard any updates about Noah Hawley’s long-in-development Alien TV series for FX, but yesterday at FX’s Television Critics Association panel a major update was given with the show expected to begin production later this year.
Hawley’s Alien is set long before Ridley Scott’s first film featuring Sigourney Weaver as Ripley and takes place on Earth towards the end of the 21st century, but will still feature the infamous Xenomorphs. Hawley has been hard at work on the series over the last few years while working on FX’s Fargo. It seems the current plan is once Fargo concludes its upcoming fifth season, he will move on to Alien.
“Noah is currently in production on the fifth season of Fargo but he’s in active preproduction on Alien, he’s written scripts,” said FX Boss John Landgraf at the TCA. “I think he’s meeting with his production designer in Austin this weekend, gearing up for production this year after he completes the fifth season of Fargo.”
Hawley is writing the as-yet-untitled Alien series alongside WandaVision‘s Bobak Esfarjani, with Esfarjani also serving as a supervising producer. Hawley will produce the series while franchise creator Ridley Scott will executive produce.
