Filling the giant demon shoes of Ron Perlman is no easy task; ask David Harbour. But a new actor is attempting to become Hellboy.
Jack Kesy has been cast as Hellboy, reports Deadline. Kesy is best known for his role in action films, including Deadpool 2, Dark Web: Cicada 3301, and most recently, The Outpost.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man is set in the 1950s and will follow Hellboy stranded in rural Appalachia. Hellboy and a rookie agent at BPRD (the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense) discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.
The film comes from Millennium Media and sees Crank director Brian Taylor helming a script from Hellboy comic book creator Mike Mignola and writer Chris Golden.
“Jack Kesy is a dynamic actor who has the ability to morph into his roles. His talent and stature are perfect for this younger Hellboy. I was very impressed with him while working together on The Outpost,” said co-President of Millennium Media, Jonathan Yunger.
This is the second Hellboy film since Millennium acquired the rights in 2018; David Harbor starred in a 2019 reboot that bombed at the box office. Most famously, Guillermo Del Toro directed Hellboy films in 2004 and 2008 starring Ron Perlman.

“The Crooked Man is a departure from all previous Hellboy films where Mike Mignola and the creator of the comics will finally shepherd an authentic version of his stories and characters in film form,” said Millennium Media’s President Jeffrey Greenstein. “This is the first in the series of films that will captivate audiences in familiar (and new) ways. Brian Taylor is an expert across the board, and I couldn’t think of a better person to bring this story to life to show our audience this different and original Hellboy slate of films.”
Millennium Media is producing alongside Dark Horse Entertainment.
