Disney have found a cat-wrangler for their live-action adaptation of their 1970 animated classic The Aristocats in the form of the Academy Award winning director of Summer of Soul and all-round musical legend Questlove.
According to Deadline Ahmir ‘Questlove’ Thompson, founding member of the iconic Philadelphia hip hop band, The Roots, will direct what they’re labelling ‘a live-action hybrid reimaging’ of The Aristocats for Walt Disney Studios.
If you’d want anybody to try and rework Disney Classic’s such as “Everybody Wants to be a Cat” and “Thomas O’Malley Cat”, then Questlove might just be the kind of inspired casting that these uninspiring remakes require.
The Aristocats was the 20th Disney animated feature film and revolves around a family of aristocratic cats who are kidnapped by a butler as part of a plan to gain his mistress’s fortune. The film features the voices of Phil Harris, Eva Gabor, Hermione Baddeley, Dean Clark, Sterling Holloway, Scatman Crothers, and Roddy Maude-Roxby.
