Sony Pictures unveiled the first trailer for Kraven the Hunter at their CinemaCon presentation, and while we wait for it to appear online, star Aaron Taylor-Johnson has revealed that the Marvel Comic’s adaptation will be rated R.
The Kick-Ass and Age of Ultron actor introduced the teaser by telling the that audience “Will it be rated R? F*ck yes, it’s going to be rated R.”
According to Deadline’s report, what followed featured Sony’s latest Marvel antihero in bloodthirsty action taking down a team of mercenaries, as well as scenes with his father, played by Russell Crowe, and his brother, Chameleon, played by Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus). There were also glimpses of West Side Story Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose as Calypso, and a brief appearance from another of Spider-Man’s iconic enemies, Rhino.
Kraven the Hunter is being directed by J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year) from a script by Art Marcum (Iron Man), Richard Wenk (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back) and Matt Holloway (Uncharted), and takes place within Sony’s shared Marvel universe alongside Venom and Morbius. The film also stars Alessandro Nivola, Levi Miller, and Christopher Abbott in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
Following the failure of Morbius there’s a lot riding on the next character off Sony’s conveyor belt of bad-guys, with Kraven the Hunter released in theatres on October 6, 2023, followed by a Madame Web movie starring Dakota Johnson, which opens on February 16th 2024.
