David Arquette opens up about his FOMO over Scream VI

April 16, 2023 by EJ Moreno

David Arquette was crucial to the success of Scream and its long-running favorite franchise, but as we know, his character was killed off in the shocking fifth installment.

Now, we’ve seen another entry come out and make a big splash as it nears the box-office success of the original entry. Scream 6 saw the first entry without Arquette or Neve Campbell, and the actor says it wasn’t easy.

“It was hard for me to do it, but I also knew I wanted to see it,” Arquette tells Variety writer Marc Malkin at the premiere of Mrs. Davis, the new Peacock show in which the actor stars. He continues, “I loved it. It was sad. I had lots of FOMO.”

That ‘FOMO’ is warranted as the exit the character got was not only brutal to watch, but the actor explains it was difficult to film. Shot in late 2020, the production guidelines were still strict, given the COVID restrictions. This would end up affecting Arquette, says the actor.

Variety spoke to Arquette back when Scream 5 originally came out and noted at the time, “It was really difficult because it was during COVID, so it’s harder to have that connection with the crew because you’re not hanging out after work,” he said. “So I did the scene, I went to the hotel, and I just kind of sat with it. Then I packed up and left. It was a big portion of my life coming to a close and a lot to process.”

David Arquette will next be seen in Mrs. Davis, a new series coming to Peacock from Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof, which stars Betty Gilpin. Arquette plays Gilpin’s father, a magician who used his daughter to con audiences. He says he helped prepare for this role by working with a magician in Nashville. Mrs. Davis premiers on Peacock on April 20th, and Scream VI is still in cinemas.

Scream VI is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Oplin and Tyler Gillett and stars Scream 2022 cast members Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding, franchise mainstay Courteney Cox and Scream 4’s Hayden Panettiere, and new additions Samara Weaving (Ready or Not), Dermot Mulroney (Hanna), Jack Champion (Avatar: The Way of Water), Liana Liberato (The Beach House), Devyn Nekoda (Ghostwriter), Josh Segarra (Arrow), Henry Czerny (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1) and Tony Revolori (Spider-Man: No Way Home).
