We have our first casting news for Sony’s Venom 3 as Deadline reports that Juno Temple (Ted Lasso) is joining Tom Hardy in the next installment.
Temple’s character has not been revealed, nor has the plot to the third Venom film. Hardy and screenwriter Kelly Marcel, who wrote the scripts for Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, have been writing the third film with Marcel also making her directorial debut for Venom 3, taking over the director’s chair from Ruben Fleischer and Andy Serkis.
Venom 3 is one of many projects Sony has in development for their Sony Universe of Marvel Characters, which includes any character introduced in the Spider-Man comics as they still hold the film rights to Marvel’s webslinger. Their universe includes the Venom films, last year’s Morbius and the upcoming Kraven The Hunter and Madame Web starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Dakota Johnson respectively.
It is unknown if Venom 3 will connect directly to Morbius or any of the upcoming Sony Marvel films or make further connections to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Hardy’s cameo in the mid-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Other Sony projects include El Muerto with rapper Bad Bunny in the lead role, though that is reportedly now at a “standstill” in development, and Hypno-Hustler with Donald Glover. Past projects Sony has attempted to launch but went into development hell or outright cancelled were Silver & Black focusing on the anti-heroes Silver Sable and Black Cat as well as a Sinister Six movie.
Venom 3 will be produced by Hardy, Marcel, Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Hutch Parker.
