Knuckles, an upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog spinoff series, has started production. The series has seen some returning franchise players, along with the returning Idris Elba.
Tika Sumpter will reprise her role as Maddie Wachowski, the adoptive mother to Sonic. Joining her and now leading the series will be Adam Pally, who will return as Wade Whipple, one of Tom Wachowski’s fellow police officers at the Green Hills Sheriff’s Department.
Per the logline, the series sees “Knuckles agree to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.”
Alongside Elba, Sumpter, and Pally, some franchise newcomers like Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Rory McCann, Scott Mescudi, and Ellie Taylor have also been confirmed.
Jeff Fowler, the director behind both Sonic the Hedgehog films, is set to direct the pilot episode and executive produce the series. John Whittington is the pilot’s writer and will pen the entire series.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 made an impressive $405.4 million globally, cementing Sonic’s status as a pop culture icon and lending its way to spinoffs like Knuckles.
Knuckles takes place between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the latter set to hit cinemas on December 20, 2024. The series will land on Paramount+.
