Radio Silence have already made their stamp on horror with their twisted slashers, but now they’ll do the monster mash with Universal’s iconic monsters.
The untitled-Universal Monster Movie will see Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett helm from a script written by Stephen Shields, with revisions by Guy Busick. Scream producer Chad Villella will serve as producer alongside William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and James Vanderbilt at Project X Entertainment.
Joining Radio Silence is Scream 5 and Scream 6 star Melissa Barrera, fresh off her starring role in the latest slasher, which is just under the global box office of the original outing. Barrera’s role in the monster movie is still unknown.
Little is known about the project, but Deadline notes it will follow The Invisible Man and Renfield in an attempt to give the film a modern reboot. The outlet claims the “thriller provides a unique take on legendary monster lore and will represent a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate these classic characters.”
Many speculate that a new version of Bride of Frankenstein is long-overdue, and Barrera could fit a modern version of the iconic character. There’s also Creature from the Black Lagoon and a new Mummy that the studio could tap into.
Given the strength of Radio Silence’s direction and the growth of Melissa Barrera as an actress, this could be a horror-filled delight for fans.
