Daniel Craig as Balder the Brave? We almost saw that happen during Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Elizabeth Olsen confirmed the news during a recent podcast, giving fans the first official confirmation from someone in the main cast.
Olsen joined Josh Horowitz on his Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, where she briefly dove into the cut cameo. When Horowitz asked how it was working with John Krasinski in the film, as he appeared as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic as part of the Illuminati, she notes she never actually filmed with him.
This led to Horowitz asking if she knew about Daniel Craig’s Balder the Brave appearing in the film. She reveals, “Yes, that’s what I thought was going to happen too. I saw the art. They made a costume. They had a design.”
Olsen’s comments pair with costume designer Graham Churchyard, who recently spoke to ComicBook.com and noted they “got very far designing Balder the Brave.”
For those who don’t know, Balder the Brave is Thor’s half-brother in the comics. The character was introduced in 1962 as the Asgardian God of Light and aided Thor against many foes.
If the cameo had happened, this would’ve been Daniel Craig’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His cameos for Disney films often don’t pan out like this or are underwhelming, like his brief appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Craig will next star in Queer, an upcoming romantic period drama film directed by Luca Guadagnino.
