A sequel to body-swap blockbuster Freaky Friday has been rumoured for years, with star Jamie Lee Curtis recently admitting that she’d written to Disney about the possibility of returning. Well it appears that her letter landed on the right desk, because a follow-up is officially in development at the studio, with Curtis and Lindsay Lohan attached to reprise their roles.
According to Deadline Elyse Hollander will pen the script to the follow-up, with the Academy Award winning Curtis and Mean Girls star Lohan returning as the mother and daughter who woke up one Friday morning having miraculously swapped bodies.
Freaky Friday, the 2003 Disney remake of the 1976 film starring Jodie Foster, made $160 million at the worldwide box-office, and has become a mainstay of the family viewing schedule throughout the intervening years.
Say what you will about the dearth of originality in Hollywood, but body-swap movies often deliver the goods; 13 Going on 30, Freaky, Jumanji, Vice-Versa, Big, and Your Name are just a few of the most memorable.
