While Paddington heads back home for the upcoming third film, he’ll have a new home when it comes to domestic distribution.
Paddington In Peru has now locked a new distribution deal with Sony. StudioCanal, fully backing the movie, will release the upcoming third installment in the U.K., France, Germany, Benelux, Australia/New Zealand, and Poland. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the Paddington franchise is heading to Sony Pictures in North America. Before Sony, Warner Bros. held domestic distribution rights.
Little is known about the project, but reports claim Paddington In Peru will see “Paddington getting into sticky situations in deepest, darkest Peru, his country of birth.” Many assume that Ben Whishaw will reprise the voice role of Paddington, but there’s no confirmation yet. Other franchise regulars, Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Imelda Staunton, and Michael Gambon, are also yet to be confirmed.
The Paddington movies have been both a commercial and critical success, grossing more than $500 million at the worldwide box office and having impressive numbers on Rotten Tomatoes.
Paddington In Peru will begin production on July 24th, with filmmaker Dougal Wilson making his feature debut. Filming will be done on location in London and Peru.
