The Hollywood Reporter just threw hurdles in The Flash’s race to “Best Superhero Movie Ever” status.
After weeks of hype, even Stephen King coming out of the woodwork to praise the film, new tracking numbers put the hotly-anticipated DC Studios at an opening weekend just north of 2022’s lackluster Black Adam.
THR reports the film will open in the $70 million range, according to those with access to tracking data. If it stays in that $70 million range, it will put the project not far off the $67 million debut of Black Adam.
The current projections from The Hollywood Reporter are a bit different from the numbers from just last week – which had The Flash opening at a bit more impressive $115 million, according to Box-Office Pro. Given the hefty budget of $200-$220 million and a stellar marketing campaign, it would take quite an impressive opening (and an entire theatrical run) to recoup its studio’s investment.

The Flash will zoom into cinemas soon, and audiences will decide about the project’s quality.
Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
The Flash is directed by Andy Muschietti (It) and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash alongside Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ben Affleck (Batman), Michael Keaton (Batman), Sasha Calle (Supergirl), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Antje Traue (Faora-Ul), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ron Livingston (Henry Allen), and Maribel Verdu (Nora Allen).
