As Arnold Schwarzenegger follows in the footsteps of fellow action icon Sylvester Stallone by heading to the small screen for his first series regular role in Netflix’s FUBAR, the former Governor of California has been back out on the campaign trail this week to promote the new show.
Speaking to Parade, Schwarzenegger was asked whether he’d be reuniting with old foe-turned-friend Sly on the upcoming fourth instalment of The Expendables franchise, with Arnie confirming he turned down the opportunity for another outing as Trent “Trench” Mauser but is keen to work with Stallone again in the near future.
“[The Expendables 4] is done and I’m not in it,” said Schwarzenegger. “I said, ‘You know what, we have done this and I’m out of it.’ And [Stallone] really understood. I did [The Expendables] as a favor to Sly. I shot it on a Saturday for two hours quickly in a church with Bruce Willis. Sly said, ‘Oh, can you do Expendables 2?’ and I did that for a weekend. Then it was expanded for Expendables 3. And that was it. We’re going to do something together one day.”
While Arnie won’t be joining Stallone for Barney Ross’ swansong, Sly is joined in the cast of The Expendables 4 by fellow franchise vets Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture, as well as new additions Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Andy García, Tony Jaa, Jacob Scipio, Iko Uwais, Levy Tran and Eddie Hall. It is slated for release on September 22nd 2023 while Schwarzenegger’s FUBAR is streaming now on Netflix.
