Don’t play that Hans Zimmer score just yet; the return of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman is seemingly done.
With conflicting stories, we don’t know what’s true. Still, a new Variety piece says that DC Studios is moving away from Gadot’s take on the DCU hero, looking to start fresh after the DCEU run.
According to the sources, a third Wonder Woman film is not in development at DC Studios, nor does the studio plan anything besides their previously announced Paradise Lost prequel series for Max, even if Gal Gadot offers different teases.
The first hint from Gadot came in an interview this month where she was quoted saying, “I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”
Then, the actress recently told Flaunt Magazine she “was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and what they told me, and I’m quoting: ‘You’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman— you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ So time will tell.”
Those hands have reportedly let Gadot go, with the Variety report detailing new information from DC Studios. In the story, the outlet notes that “nothing was ever promised to Gadot regarding Wonder Woman 3, nor was there any definitive discussion of Gadot’s Wonder Woman continuing with the new DC Universe.”
With the statements given, the actress could want to keep her options open, but with the DC Studios soft reboot in place and a new Wonder Woman-related project on that slate, the Gal Gadot-era could be finally done.
While we await official confirmation on DC’s Amazon Princess, you can next see Gadot starring in her Netflix action thriller Heart of Stone, which is streaming from today.
