Disney looking to turn Prince Charming into a “bumbling idiot” for live-action Snow White spinoff

August 16, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Disney is looking to take the “iconic” Prince Charming in a new direction, going a comedic route for a possible Snow White spin-off.

A new report claims a new project related to Disney’s Snow White film starring Rachel Zegler and Gadot Gadot could be in the works, with development on the Prince Charming movie possibly already underway pre-Hollywood strikes.

Scooper Daniel Richtman notes Dan Gregor and Doug Mand are writing the script about a ‘bumbling idiot’ Prince Charming, who is said to not appear in Snow White, but the Princess will appear in his film.

Some film pundits are upset with the possible shake-up of the characters as the ‘bumbling idiot’ male and ‘fearless leader’ female can draw ire from a particular group. While others are noting this could be a callback to 90s comedies that featured the lovable schmucks running amok.

Prince Charming is often ranked low in the Disney Prince rankings, so a possible revamp of the character could do well. With the right casting opposite Zegler and a possible “soft-launch” introduction in a Snow White post-credit scene, it could be a fun movie and give Disney a new male lead for their films.

The tone of the rumored project has yet to be revealed, but this does showcase Disney has faith in their live-action Snow White adaptation to begin possibly developing a spin-off. Disney has already filmed Snow White, with Marc Webb directing a script co-written by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson.

As there’s no reported release date for Disney’s Snow White, don’t expect Prince Charming anytime soon. Stay tuned to Flickering Myth for more news on both films…
