One of 2022’s biggest surprises could be found on the small-screen in the shape of Predator-prequel Prey, and now director Dan Trachtenberg has been speaking about the potential of exploring that world once again.
Following Shane Black’s disastrous The Predator (2018), 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Boys director Trachtenberg stripped the franchise back to its 1987 basics, and delivered a game of Comanche cat-and-mouse between one of cinema’s most iconic monsters and the movie’s MVP Amber Midthunder.
Prey was a huge hit for Hulu (and Disney+ where it streamed outside of the U.S.), with the critics agreeing (read our ★★★★★ review here), so it’s no surprise that talk has turned to a sequel, and it’s something Trachtenberg has addressed while speaking with The Playlist about the film’s multiple Emmy-nominations.
When asked about whether he’d like to do another Predator-prequel or a direct sequel to Prey, he replied “I can’t really say anything about that right now, but I’ll say while we were finishing the movie, we were having really exciting conversations. The studio, myself, the writer, and the producers about what crazy things could we do next. And I’ve never stopped, no one stopped thinking about how cool things could be going forward.”
It’s not much to go on, but it’s good to know that the creative team behind Prey were, and still are thinking about where the hunt can take place in the future, or past.
