Martin Scorsese knows all about inserting religion into his film work. Scorsese is unafraid to tackle heavy themes and ideas from The Last Temptation of Christ to Silence.
The filmmaker is taking some bold steps with his next project, putting something new into his latest religious movie. When the director announced that this new film centered around Jesus was coming, many had no clue what it would be about. All Scorsese noted was that the Vatican was influencing the movie as it was a response to The Pope’s call to action for artists to use their appeal.
Well, it turns out that Scorsese himself doesn’t know what he wants to do yet, telling Time Magazine that he’s torn on a few ideas.
He tells the publication, “I don’t know what it’s going to be, exactly. I don’t know what you’d call it. It wouldn’t be a straight narrative, but there would be staged scenes. And I’d be in it.”
Before Scorsese ventures back to the religious world, the filmmaker awaits the release of Killers of the Flower Moon, his latest project starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone. Watch the latest trailer ehre.
At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder. Based on a true story and told through the improbable romance of Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone), “Killers of the Flower Moon” is an epic western crime saga where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal.
Killers of the Flower Moon stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Brendan Fraser, Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, William Belleau, Jason Isbell, Louis Cancelmi, Scott Shepherd, John Lithgow, and Sturgill Simpson.
The film will premiere in select theaters on October 6, 2023, before expanding on October 20, 2023, and then streaming globally on Apple TV+.
